John McMillan, born in Perth, grew up in Belfast, Dunfermline and Crieff.

Joined the army in 1988 as an avionics technician in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. Saw service in Northern Ireland and the former Yugoslavia, as it was called in 1995. Left service in November 2000, 3 months short of 13 years service and left as a class 1 Sergeant. Married to Belle and have 2 sons.
